  Romantic dinner at mar'sel at at the beautiful Terranea Resort. Reception was a host of smiles and greetings through the lovely entrance with prompt seating outdoors overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This is at the top of my list for romantic restaurants, perfect for quiet, fine dining either inside the lushly appointed dining room or outside under the stars. The service was as you expect a fine dining restaurant, top-notch, very professional staff. We were seated outdoors, and the staff was quick to position heat lamps perfectly to mute the chill without affecting our view. The menu was small but with so many tempting choices it was hard to settle; there is also a tasting menu. We chose the cheese plate, sunchoke bisque, and grilled Spanish octopus paired with a nice bottle of wine. The staff brought us a chef's tasting spoon (yummy grit cake) and some of the best, most unique biscuits I've seen, paired with fresh butter and sea salt. The five cheeses were all very good and very well balanced; the cheese plate also included a nice section of breads, fruits, nuts, etc. The bisque was rich and filling. The octopus was a special highlight, perfectly prepared blackened octopus on a bed of greens, chickpeas, and ink-infused naan. Fairly expensive meal but deservedly so. Reservations highly suggested. Suggest smart dress. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for romance.
